Some time ago, I wrote a post on Uyghur Folk Music and in it I talked a little of my love for China’s ethnic minorities. A lot of people don’t realize that a lot of what we think of as “Chinese Culture” is really “Han Culture”- the dominant ethnic group in China- and that there actually 55 other ethnic groups who inhabit the country with their own histories, customs and languages/dialects. I like complementary colors. I don’t like impressionist art. However, I have yet to find another genre of art that so fully celebrates the paradoxical harmony of complete opposites, particularly the colors blue and orange.
